In Beth's words, she explains why she and Kirk chose to become homeowners: "Home ownership definitely had the appeal of making a place your 'home' instead of just a place to live. We wanted to find a community where we could settle in. We had talked about it, but weren't sure it was something we could afford. With the $8,000 tax rebate for first-time home owners, it was. So that was what gave us a big push."

Beth discusses what was most intimidating about shopping for a home: "Where to start. Trying to figure out what was our price range, what was in our price range, what types of red flags to watch for, how the process of buying a house usually goes. It can all be overwhelming." ... And the most fun part of searching for a new home: "Seeing what's out there. Imagining the different things you could do with different spaces. But, when we found what we were looking for, it just clicked. At times it could be a little discouraging ... not finding what you wanted. But you definitely have to stick it out. I'm not sure we would have if Holly weren't setting up appointments."
"We were looking for something that had character and a solid foundation. We wanted something that we could make our own. In some ways we weren't sure exactly what we wanted, but as we looked it became more clear. We wanted something that was a comfortable size, nothing overwhelming. We also figured out wood floors were something we really liked in a home. And, we also kind of got a feel for the rooms we would probably enjoy the most. One of which, surprisingly, was the kitchen."
Beth's advice to other first time home seekers: "Don't be discouraged! You will find something eventually. And, use a Realtor, It made the process so much easier! It meant a lot to have someone who knows what they're doing to help guide you through the process." |
"I don't think it has completely sunk in yet that it's our house! We've been spending a lot of time to make it comfortable to us. One of my favorite things is that it's starting to reflect us and our personalities. I think it's also really help us build our relationship. When you're working on hanging light fixtures, you really learn how to work together! And, Kirk really likes that he got a new drill."
